In 2016, the American Distilling Institute named Kings County Distillery as its distillery of the year and it’s not at all surprising because quality is such a focus for Kings County. Founded in Brooklyn in 2010 Kings County offers moonshine and whiskeys that are handcrafted and critically acclaimed.
Their Bourbon is 80% corn made organically in New York state and 20% barley imported from the united Kingdom offering notes of vanilla and caramel. It’s aged in charred American Oak for 2 years giving the bourbon a robust feel for a young bourbon. Jim Murray rated this bourbon 89 points calling it “an excellent outpouring of citrus-tinged vanilla.”
Their Peated Bourbon follows the same corn/barley mash bill as the bourbon but now the barley is slightly peated before the blending process. This adds tremendous complexity as some sweetness remains but is now mingled with a slight smokiness. Jim Murray rated this offering a 94 calling it one of his superstar whiskies.
