The art of cocktail making has grown tremendously over the past 100 plus years. Originally, cocktails wanted to mask the harsh alcohol levels of spirits but today that’s not always the case. Distillers have been able to smooth out their spirits to an incredible level even when compared to 10 years ago. Nowadays some cocktails are just meant to show off the true beauty of their base spirit. With that said, here is our recipe for the ultimate Manhattan….
Fill a shaker or large glass with ice add 1/2 ounce of Matthaisson Sweet Vermouth and 2 ounces of Angel’s Envy Rye Whiskey. We recommend a Rye Whiskey because they tend to be less sweet than a Bourbon and find their spiciness pairs beautifully with a sweet Vermouth. A Bourbon may make the cocktail too sweet but feel free to have fun experimenting!
Stir the ice, Vermouth and Whiskey and then strain into a cocktail glass. Drop in a dash or two of Angostura Bitters and garnish with a Maraschino cherry. If you really aren’t a fan of sweet feel free to switch to a dry Vermouth and then garnish with a lemon peel. Always feel free to experiment and have fun!!
